About Me

My work sits at the intersection of people, systems, and change.

With experience as a college professor, business consultant, market researcher, and addiction counselor, I am uniquely positioned to help individuals, organizations, students, and families cut through the noise, question bad assumptions, and make decisions that are data-driven, while still grounded in humanity, compassion, and ethics.

I believe people and organizations are at their best when they look honestly at the world as it is, not as they might wish it to be. Whether I’m advising a student on the best path forward, working with an organization to launch a new product or reduce employee turnover, or sitting down with an individual desperate for change, I approach the work the same way.

Different contexts, one philosophy: clarity before action, people before systems, and integrity always.

Professional Philosophy

The work I do is guided by a small set of principles that remain constant, regardless of context.

Clarity Comes Before Action

Before strategies or solutions, there must be an honest understanding of what’s actually happening. Acting on incomplete or distorted information leads to wasted effort and predictable failure.

People Are Rarely the Problem

Behavior almost always makes sense in context. Systems, incentives, stress, trauma, and information gaps shape outcomes far more than individual shortcomings. People can only be as good as they are allowed to be.

Ethics Are Not Optional

Good intentions don’t excuse poor methods. Decisions should be transparent, defensible, and aligned with long-term values—not short-term convenience.

Money Matters—to a Point

Financial realities must be acknowledged, but they are only one variable. Sustainable success balances income, meaning, and human cost.

My Journey

A Path That Integrates Academia, Consulting, & Counseling

My work is shaped by a lifelong search for meaning, clarity, and usefulness. After growing up in Appalachian Kentucky, starting work at fourteen, and moving through a wide range of industries, I eventually found my place working with people—through education, research, consulting, and later in addiction counseling.<br>

While the settings differ, the philosophy does not: real progress comes from curiosity, compassion, honesty, and the courage to tell the truth about what’s actually happening.
